Where to find the fish in New Zealand
Rig up your jigging set with your favourite lure and head out here. Lighter jigs are recommended as it is quite shallow.
This spot is well worth the drive. Cast off the wharf or rocks into reasonable current. Often Kingfish will come in close so it’s a good idea to have a livebait or two ready.
Watch for winter work ups and fish a deep softbait this spot is producing good snapper at the moment.

Rig up your jig sets with 200g jigs and hit this spot on your next trip out. Kings are often swarming this spot. Heavy Slow jigs are also very good here.
Lots of action here at the moment, either strayline at the change of light or chase Kahawai with softbaits in mid-water.
Gannet Island off Kawhia is a great spot for XOS Snapper, and at this time of year it’s worth having a troll for Kings.
If you like Garnard then Waihi Beach is the spot to note. Lots of burley is required to draw the big ones in.
West of Mayor Island is a great spot for slow and speed jigging as it comes up from 100m to 36m. Often found here are large Snapper and reasonable-sized Kingies.
